M is for the Maiden Buried In Ice - #A2Z2018

Mat opened the Google home page and typed in, "Satanic Rituals" into the search bar. Google immediately threw up a bevy of results. He read a number of articles. He learned that were several rituals conducted by worshippers of Satan. Each stranger than the other. Most involved men and women whipping themselves till their bodies bled profusely. Most of these rituals included strange dances in addition to the whipping.

But he did not come across anything that involved ice in any way. He read the Wikipedia article on Satanism and the rituals performed by devil worshippers and none of these involved ice. In fact, ice never seemed to have formed a part of any satanic ritual. Next, Mat typed in "Human Sacrifices" into the search box.

Here he was a bit more successful. There was an article with the title "Top 10 Bizarre Methods Of Human Sacrifice." He read through the article. He was shocked by the depravity and callousness the methods of sacrifice involved. He was further stunned by the extent to which superstitions held sway over human beings in the medieval and ancient times. Still no ice.

He then tried the search words "Human Sacrifices, Ice". This time he hit jackpot. The first heading had the title

"Amazing Tale Of The Inca Ice Maiden - A Human Sacrifice Left To Die 500..."

Mat clicked on the link and read...

"IN AN area of South America then ruled by the Inca civilization, she would have been singled out for her blemish-free looks and the fact that she was a virgin. Thus selected at the age of 12 she would have been taken away from her peasant parents and given a remarkable year-long preparation for her particular role in life, one that was deemed a great honor.
She would have been put under the guidance of priestesses and dressed in the best clothes. Her hair would have been immaculately braided and her modest diet replaced with the finest foods.
In the final few weeks of her life, she would also have been plied with alcohol and mind-altering drugs. Then, when she was surely in a muddled, drunken state, she would have been taken to a sacred mountaintop four miles high in freezing temperatures. There she would have been left in a tomb to die at the extreme altitude..."

This kind of human sacrifice seemed to have been carried out in the ancient Inca civilization in South America. A 500-year-old mummy had been discovered by archaeologists purported to be that of a thirteen-year-old peasant child.  Apparently being sacrificed in this manner was considered a great honor. But this was an article Mat had discovered in 2018.

Could the boy Jack have killed Hilda and Karen by burying them in a coffin full of Ice? If so how did he induce the two of them to lie down in the coffin? There were many unanswered questions. Mat then did some research on the resistance of the human body to low temperatures. He looked up the scientific advances and the research that had been conducted in this direction.

He came across several articles, and images of some very prominent researchers in the field. He paid close attention to some of these and saved the articles and images of these researchers. One particular article was of great interest to him. Finally, Mat looked at his watch. It was 6 PM. He called the manager of the hotel and requested him to order a cab to take him to the airport.

He was soon at the airport. The return journey was uneventful. He finally reached Shimla and ordered a cab from the airport to the hotel. He reached the Hotel at 10.30 PM. He went up the lift to his room and silently let himself in.

  1. Very gripping. I need to know what happens next!

  2. So finally Mat got something to look upon. Is this real? Human sacrifice I really fear and I have heard many stories that human sacrifice pleased the deity and he fulfilled the wish of devotee. Don't know what is truth..

  3. Another solid installment, Jai. The pieces are falling in place slowly but surely. The narrative is gripping. But I felt the episode ended rather abruptly. I would suggest that you endeavor to end each episode on a cliffhanger.

  4. Aah! So the research is finally leading him to an avenue now. Want to read ahead as soon as possible 😊

  5. I am curious to know more about the Inca punishment. Why did they do that? To please the deities or as a form of punishment?

  6. Is this punishment a real one you found or fictional? Chilling stuff. Hopefully he can start finding some answers now. Enjoy the rest day, halfway through, well done!

  7. Ah exciting, Jai! I´m hooked onto your story....

  8. Gripping narration and each episode in the series is falling so well, putting the pieces of puzzle on by one. Am sure Mat will find something very soon. The series is being done really well Jai :) Am sure, readers, wouldn't be able to put down or stop when reading the 26 posts at a go. Waiting for next one!
